From Paper To Pearls And Beyond: Anniversary Centerpieces for Each Milestone Year

Sometimes finding the right party theme can be a challenge, but if you're having an anniversary celebration, half the party planning is done if you use the Traditional Anniversary Materials Guide for Gift Giving. You know, it's the list that suggests what each wedding anniversary gift should be made of. Most people know that year one is paper and that the 25th and 50th are silver and gold. But, what about all those decades in between? With crystal and emerald on the list, you can truly get inspired with these party themes and centerpieces.

You can also make your own window coverings out of specialty papers. These are transparent window blinds that are made from rice paper. Some of these papers are absolutely beautiful and feature details such as glitter, leaves or threads pressed right into mesh of the paper fibers. To make the curtain all you have to do is attach it to pinch clips. If you buy these in the store they are usually quite expensive especially if they are decorated with a motif pattern or a design as they are considered to be a bit haute couture. Now that you have your walls, trim and shelves painted, choose window coverings that will function through all of your childs decorating stages. You can use the coordinating color, a neutral color, or the accent color. While horizontal blinds come in a large array of colors and are quite popular now, they are difficult to keep clean. Will your child really dust them each week? Roll-up shades are available in many colors and if you cant find the perfect color, you can paint it! Roman shades are another choice which will grow with your child, and they have the added advantages of great insulation and room darkening ability (great for those teen years when they just cant seem to get enough sleep).Of course, crystal vases and crystal candlesticks would grace your tables with elegance. But a different way to capitalize on the theme is to add crystal beads to your dcor, either in a vase or strewn across the table.Turn your 35th anniversary into a destination celebration by traveling to see the coral reefs of Florida, the Bahamas or some other exotic locale. After your dive, you can dive into a fabulous dinner with coral reef candle holders as your centerpiece. You'd probably want to shy away from authentic pearls because of the cost, but that doesn't mean you can't drape a string of faux pearls around your centerpiece vase for the symbolism. If you're having a beach-themed party, place an open clam shell on each table with a pearl in the center for the perfect blend of beauty and beach.45th (Sapphire)Alluring aluminum makes a grand statement when it's presented as beautiful flowers in a contemporary metal bowl. Or for a traditional look, accent your garden celebration with lanterns made with aluminum or tin.Always remember that your window coverings can help make the style of your room look more casual or more formal depending on what style you use. The more fabric, swags and pleats there are to your curtains, the more formal the room will look. The simpler your window treatment is, as would be the case with rice paper roll blinds or a single sheer hung from a curtain rod, the less formal the entire effect will be.Think Window CoveringsYouve got the walls, trim, shelves and window coverings taken care of. Now what? Its time to personalize the room with items that reflect your childs interests. A great place to start is with wall art, such as paintings or posters. The internet has great websites filled with wall art for all ages and interests. Go through them with your child and choose one, two, or even three that coordinate. (Before beginning this process, be sure to remind your child that, as a parent, you have veto power!) Now you have your theme! With this ring, you can celebrate the day she said yes 60 years ago with a diamond engagement ring theme. Diamond-shaped tea light holders and candlesticks are as elegant and meaningful as the diamond ring that started it all.Use a shade of your childs favorite color to paint the walls. If its a strong color, you may want to paint three walls a neutral color and use the favorite color as an accent wall color. Paint the trim and shelving in the coordinating color. Trust me, youll want lots of shelving! Its great for toy storage in the younger years, collection storage in the middle years, and book storage in the high school years.Youve Done It!Think Wall ArtThink Color SchemeThink WallsThink Accent Items50th (Gold)40th (Ruby)The color is red, and the sentiment is love. Express it with ruby red vases encrusted with gemstones or vintage lamps with ruby tear-drop crystals dangling from the edge of the shade. There are all sorts of ways to go red. From a Wizard of Oz theme complete with ruby slippers to ruby crowns and tiaras that treat you like the king and queen you are, let the warmth and beauty of ruby inspire you.Congratulations, youve done it! Your childs room is a special place that he helped plan. Hes feeling great about his role in the process and loves his room. Even better, because of your great planning, the basics walls, trim, and window coverings can stay the same throughout his many stages. As he grows and his interests change, all you need to do is change the wall art and accent items. Are you brilliant or what?
